Teenage Relationship Abuse – It was very useful to learn of the national risk assessment tool/form for use with YP in situations of suspected domestic abuse and to learn about the issues specific to DA/DV within this age group.
Teenage Relationship Abuse – I felt that the lady who ran the course, Cathy, did so in a way that helped you to understand the point of view of the victim, to understand why they would stay in an abusive relationship, the impact it would have on the victim, and what factors would make someone more likely to be a victim. She was extremely informative and helped to realise how hard it would be for a young person to come forward about the abuse, and how I could encourage them to feel comfortable enough to speak out. She is also explained the processes to put in place to keep the young person safe, and how to make the relevant referral to get them the help they need going forward.

This helped in identifying the psychological effects that can occur for the victim and the children. The safety plans for children was interesting too.
Cathy is a very knowledgeable trainer who listened well and gave useful and thought provoking material. I have increased knowledge and have been signposted for where to look for additional information resources.
As a visual learner the video clips used during training were really good. It gave first hand information from a victim on how the perpetrator used a systematic approach to control her, and how she came through this and what she had to overcome to free herself from the domestic violent relationship and how long it actually took her to do this.
The training videos used on the workshop on the impact of domestic abuse on children were really insightful and the discussions generated were one of the best parts of the day as the whole group were engaged and sharing their knowledge and experience.
